Dawn

I’m a mum of 2 and started going to the Patchway group when my first was 3 weeks old.

When I became a mum I discovered a passion I didn't know I had. Breastfeeding is way more amazing then I ever realised and I've always been a 'helper' in life.

I trained as a peer supporter in 2016 and now support mums and am the co-ordinator for the Patchway group.

I find enormous purpose in supporting mums at all stages of their breastfeeding journeys and feel massive satisfaction at helping mums overcome obstacles and making a positive difference.

I started attending the Patchway group when my little boy was around 3 weeks old. Breastfeeding was incredibly painful and I was struggling with a lot of feelings being a brand new mum.

I was so well supported by the group and my experience with breastfeeding was totally transformed. It made me wonder how many more mums feel like giving up and do before they’re actually ready - I considered giving up myself many times!

Breastfeeding is truly miraculous and I am grateful for the opportunity to support mums breastfeeding for as long as they choose to!

Hi, I'm Kay. I'm a mum to a little whirlwind of a boy. I knew from the moment I found out I was pregnant that I wanted to breastfeed and was adamant to make it work for us. We had our ups and downs along the way but here we are 3 years later and still boobieing!
I became a peer supporter as I'm very much a people's person and wanted to help other mums who might be struggling or just need a 'time out'.
Hello I am Kris, I have been peer supporting at Patchway since October 2022.
My journey to become a peer supporter started with a difficult beginning to breastfeeding. Finding the Patchway group has been a saving grace not only for my nipples but also for my sanity, having a safe space to attend every week not only to discuss breastfeeding but also just interacting with other moms have had such a big impact that now even after moving to a different city completely I brave 3 buses with a toddler to come to the groups atleast twice a month and give back what I can to the community that saved my breastfeeding journey in hopes I can keep the good things going and help someone else.

I'm Ruth and i am a mum of 1 and started volunteering with the Patchway group when my daughter was around 10 months old. I received a lot of help during my breastfeeding period when my daughter was a newborn. She was born four weeks early and spent 8 days in SCBU (special care baby unit) at the RuH Bath being fed through a NG tube. We were only able to latch her initially using nipple shields, however with help from the peer supporters in our community (amongst other health professionals) we successfully weaned off shields at 8 weeks old and have had no issues since. I volunteer with the Patchway group to try and help other new mothers in the same way I needed help when my daughter was born.

Our postcode can be a bit confusing! This map will help you find us!

What mums say....

"I definitely would not be breast feeding my healthy happy 5 month old if it wasn't for Patchway breast feeding group guiding and supporting me over our difficult first three months"

"The group in Patchway has been so supportive. Especially when I turned up with my 3 week old baby and no clue what I was doing. They offered practical as well as emotional support. Even if it was just being told “that’s normal, it’s what babies do” just puts your mind at rest. Proudly feeding at 5 months, no plans to stop anytime soon"

"There's always a friendly smile and a fountain of knowledge and support waiting for you at the Patchway feeding group"

"I came along to the groups feeling nervous and like I was letting myself and my new baby down because I was struggling so much with feeding. I always wanted to feed and emotionally really struggled at the thought of giving up. You made me feel confident that I had come to the right place and a few adjustments with latch etc.. meant I left that day feeling confident and more determined to work through the issues. I bought a new pump on the way home, after you educated me about flanges, and I had a good giggle too. It was a very positive experience,If it wasn't for these groups, I would have continued to struggle. These groups have enabled me to keep going and I know if I need support that I can turn up, and there will be friendly faces"

"I still remember my first day at Mammaccinos with my first born. Everyone is so inviting, friendly and allows me to discuss any "mum" topic I need to air. Attending with my second baby re-affirms how much I value the group, the advice from Ann & team and time to just talk shop.
Ann is so helpful and warm, you can approach her with any issue and she will help you through it.
For a mum who needs a confidence boost from others in the same boat, the group is invaluable.
Thank you Mammaccinos team!"
