We are Recruiting!

Without volunteers, Barnardo’s would not be able to provide information and support to families on their infant feeding journey.
Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteers provide infant feeding information and support to families in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment.
 
Our groups are for everyone, regardless of background or identity, and we would love our volunteer team to reflect the diversity of the communities we support.
 
Training as a Barnardo’s Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteer

Training is usually delivered over 6 weeks and includes a combination of online and face-to-face sessions.

Applicants will be invited to attend an online interview and will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check. Two satisfactory references must also be received before volunteering can begin.

The training programme includes some home study, although written work is kept to a minimum.

In addition, volunteers must complete mandatory online e-learning modules.
Safeguarding training forms part of the programme, and volunteering cannot begin until all training requirements have been successfully completed.

Babes in arms are welcome to attend training sessions with you. Please note that childcare is not provided.

You must be available to attend all training sessions.

We ask for a minimum commitment of one year as a volunteer at a Barnardo’s Breastfeeding Peer Support group, although attendance is not required every week.

Volunteers are also expected to attend at least two online volunteer update sessions each year.

Breastfeeding Peer Supporter Training

Training will be at Patchway Children’s Centre and online, during school hours:

You need to be available for all sessions. Babies welcome.
