WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR VOLUNTEERS! (Scroll down for details)
Thank you for considering volunteering with Barnardo’s!
Without volunteers, Barnardo’s would not be able to provide information and support to new families on their infant feeding journey.
We have 2 types of volunteers - group helpers and breastfeeding peer supporters.
Group helpers welcome families, make refreshments and help with setting up and clearing down.
Breastfeeding peer supporters provide infant feeding specific information and support.
Our groups are for anyone regardless of background or identity and we would love for our volunteer team to reflect this too.
Training as a Barnardo's Breastfeeding Peer Supporter
Training is usually held over a number of weeks with both online and face to face sessions.
Applicants will attend an online interview and be subject to an enhanced DBS check and two satisfactory references will have to be received
Training will include some homework although written work is minimal
Online volunteer e-learning is in addition and is mandatory. A safeguarding training session is included within the course. Volunteering cannot take place until after all elements have been completed
Babes in arms are welcome to attend with you. There will not be any childcare available during the sessions.
You must be available to attend all training sessions.
We are looking for a minimum commitment of one year at a Barnardo’s peer support group (but not every week)
volunteers must attend at least two online volunteer updates every year.
If you have any general questions or queries about the process or training, please contact us.

We are sorry if this is confusing, but it is correct - you are applying for the peer supporter role. See above for details of our different volunteer roles and see below for the group helper role applications.
We are also looking for Group Helpers. If you are curious about becoming a Peer Supporter, starting as a Group Helper might be a perfect stepping stone for you
If you would like to apply to be a group helper or have any questions about becoming a peer supporter before you apply, please get in touch: [email protected]
