Volunteering With Us
Firstly, let me say a huge thank you to you for considering volunteering with Barnardo’s! Without volunteers, Barnardo’s would not be able to provide information and support to new mothers to assist them and their babies/children within their breastfeeding relationships; an absolutely vital service in the South Gloucestershire area.
We aim to schedule two training courses each year and invite up to 10 prospective peer supporters on each course. We ask that volunteers give a minimum commitment of one year at a Barnardo’s peer support group after successful completion of the training course.

The application window for our next training course commencing Spring 2020 is open from 5th March - 30th March.
To apply, please register your interest by emailing Abby.aldworth@barnardos.org.uk

It will greatly assist your application if you are already (or have previously) used the services of your local Barnardo’s breastfeeding group. We are hoping volunteers will be able to assist with our Patchway, Bradley Stoke and Kingswood groups although we will try to accommodate other preferences. For details of all our Barnardo’s groups in South Gloucestershire, please look here.
The next course will run on Tuesdays from 12pm - 3pm at Filton Children's Centre, Blakeney Rd, Bristol, BS7 0DL for a 10 week training course. The dates for the training course are as follows:-
April - 21st, 28th
May - 5th, 12th, 19th,
June - 2nd 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
Babes in arms are welcome to attend with you. There will not be any childcare available during the sessions, but we will try to accommodate those applicants whose older children will need to attend with them. You must be available to attend all training sessions in order to take advantage of this volunteering opportunity.
We look for a minimum commitment of one year at a Barnardo’s peer support group after successful completion of your training. We have a number of Barnardo’s groups that are in need of additional volunteer support and, in order to ensure these groups continue, we have specific posts available for our training courses, which we will discuss with you during the recruitment process.
Any places offered on a training course will be conditional on you accepting your role within a specified group and being an active volunteer of that group upon completion of your training.
If you have any general questions or queries about the process or training, please contact me. Thank you once again for your interest in volunteering with Barnardo’s.
Kind regards,
Abby Aldworth
